" Wherever You Look You See The Chrysler Building: Third Avenue and 38th St." was photographed looking uptown from the rooftop of a building on Third Avenue and 38th St.
In the foreground, Mitchell Funk frames the scene with a graphic arrangement of white chaise lounges set against a black ground. The chaise lounges are reduced to simplified forms, pushing this part of the composition towards complete abstraction. The elevated position of the rooftop gives a unique view of midtown, with the Chrysler Building Art Deco spire revealing itself behind a nondescript box-like highrise.

Mitchell Funk is a pioneer of color photography. In 1970, he participated in one of the first color photography shows at the Brooklyn Museum titled “Images en Couleur." In 1971, he was included in the visionary books Frontiers of Photography and Color (Life Library of Photography), both published by Time-Life. He has done more than 50 photography magazine covers, including covers for Newsweek and Life.
