Lithograph on vélin d'Arches paper. Unsigned and unnumbered, as issued. Good Condition; never framed or matted. Notes: From the volume, Prints from the Mourlot Press, 1964. Published by Fernand Mourlot, Paris, and National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.; printed by Mourlot, Paris, October 27, 1964. Excerpted from the volume, This book was finished in Paris on 27th october 1964. The original lithographs and the reproductions were printed on the presses of Mourlot. The Imprimerie Nationale, Director André Brignole, was responsible for the typography. The edition has been limited to 2000 copies on Vélin d'Arches and 200 on Vélin de Rives reserved for the artists, the staff and the friends of the Imprimerie Mourlot.
AKIRA KITO (1929-1994) with a false naivety, the Japanese artist explored the mythical Japanese sources before getting an observer of city life. Kito was relatively forgotten in France, largely as a result of sudden decision to return to his native country in 1970. Yet this talented artist has long lived in France and was one of the most interesting among Japanese artists who settled in the French capital after the Second World War;Get rid of the family heritage and discover other artistic cultures. According to family legend, the Kito should their name, which literally means "head devil" to one of their ancestors having rid his country of a fearsome bandit and received testimony of the gratitude of the Emperor, who would and baptized. He was a contemporary of Picasso, Chagall and Matisse.
