According to the accompanying label, in 1949 Calder was commissioned by the New York firm Laverne Originals to create two designs for use as fabric and wallpaper. The present design - Calder # 1, a beautiful silk scarf, was re-introduced by Paperball in 2001 with special authorization from the Estate of Alexander Calder. It is a great conversation piece and a lovely vintage piece of fashion design and wearable art. A mid-century modern design, reprised in 2001 for 21st century fashionistas and collectors.
