Artist Bio
Beaudin was born in Mennecy and known for his particular attachment to his native Ile-de-France. He studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris and participated in close collaborations with friends, including Juan Gris, Max Jacob, and Paul Eluard, knowing how to surround himself and seduce the greatest artists, writers and poets of his time. Picasso said that "the lack of knowledge of Beaudin's work constitutes one of the greatest injustices of our time.” In 1962, Beaudin was awarded in the Grand Prix National des Arts and had a long series of exhibitions in France and abroad until 1970.

Andre Beaudin
André Beaudin (1895-1979) was a French painter and sculptor known for his distinctive contributions to modern art. Born in Mennecy, France, Beaudin studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Initially influenced by Cubism, Beaudin developed a unique style characterized by simplified forms and geometric abstraction. He often depicted still lifes, nudes, and landscapes with a poetic and lyrical quality, using a subdued color palette and refined compositions. Beaudin's work evolved over time, incorporating elements of Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism while maintaining his focus on structure and balance. His sculptures, primarily in bronze, also reflect his interest in form and rhythm. André Beaudin's artistic legacy continues to be celebrated, with his works exhibited in major museums and collections worldwide. He passed away in Paris in 1979, leaving behind a significant body of work that exemplifies his mastery of modern artistic expression.

Le Corbusier’s relationship with Mourlot started as early as the mid thirties. The artist was always interested in editions of all sorts, whether furniture, tablewear or lithographic. It all related to a new modern way of life and intrinsic to his architecture. In fact, the famous Modulor is the iconic image in Le Corbusier’s work as it is the basis for his architectural work.
As in many other cases, the Master’s philosophy was very democratic and he felt that while a few proofs should be signed, the others should be signed directly in the plate so that it could be affordable to as many people as possible. He wanted not only collectors, but regular home owners to have access to an artwork of quality but reasonably priced, just as he wanted them to afford his furniture designs. It was all about Modernity ushering a brave new world.
