Engraved by Charles Sorlier from original plate no. 52, under the direction of Buffet, who had the bouquet of violets removed.
In this composition, Buffet presents a still life with typically French elements. The artist balances the elegance and simplicity of the subject with a lively, generous stroke that covers the composition with a network of black lines. The work is an early lithographic print of a poster produced for the exhibition “Les peintres témoins de leur temps” at the Musée Galliera, held from January 20 to March 21, 1965.

Bernard Buffet
Bernard Buffet was born on July 10, 1928, in Paris. He was a French painter of Expressionism and a member of the anti-abstract art group L'homme Témoin. He studied art at the École Nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts and worked in the studio of the painter Eugène Narbonne. Buffet died on October 4, 1999, in Tourtour, France.
