Unframed
Pencil signed, dated and numbered from the limited edition of only 20. This seven color lithograph is by artist Donald Baechler, who is known for his multimedia work that co-opts popular culture and often references childhood. By deliberately using an awkward line and bright colors, he taps into memory and nostalgia. This rare work, created in a limited edition of only 20, was made during Baechler's residency at the prestigious Tamarind Printmaking Institute in the 1990s as part of a series of animal images, floating in a field anchored by colored squares. An avid collector of visual imagery, Donald Baechler files away representations of maps, toys, upheld thumbs, and playing cards to later source for his compositions. With stylistic references to modernist masters and Pop Art added to these doses of pop culture, Baechler is celebrated for his works that overflow with the joy and idealism of an adult who hasn't quite forgotten the innocence of childhood.
Baechler was first represented by Tony Shafrazi, a New York art dealer who became famous for discovering Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and Kenny Scharf in the 1980s. Considered to be one of the most influential artists to emerge from Shafrazi's stable, Baechler is the subject of numerous reviews, solo exhibitions, and critical essays, and has had his work collected by important figures in the art world, such as Eli Broad and Peter Brant. Unframed.

Donald Baechler
Donald Baechler was an American painter and sculptor associated with 1980's Neo-expressionism. He lived in New York City. Baechler's source material drew broadly from classical art history, the New York School, contemporary art, folk art, outsider art, pop culture and childhood. Baechler has said that 'I hold onto absolutely everything I would guess out of every thousand images I save, I probably use one or two - It's necessary to accumulate all of these things to get to the point of what's important". He showed at Sperone Westwater, Cheim Read, Kunstalle in Basel, Switzerland, Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris, Museum der Moderne in Salzburg. His work has been collected by Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Museum of contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

Publisher: Long Point Gallery, Inc., Provincetown, Massachusetts; Printer: Bruce Porter from Trestle Editions Limited, New York
Rarely to market, this stunning 1988 woodcut was created by Nora Speyer as part of a portfolio produced for sale by Long Point Gallery, an artist's cooperative in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Superb provenance as it is was acquired from the original Long Point Portfolio. This will be the first time the work will be removed from the portfolio.
It is hand signed and numbered from a very small edition of only 30; it is in fine condition, unframed and never framed, and housed in the original portfolio box, with the original colophon page, which also included works by 11 other artists.
For reference and provenance we have included an image of the colophon page from the complete portfolio.
About Nora Speyer:
The most exciting place to me is where I can communicate with the greatest number of artists. I can't live without some artists around. I'm not saying artists are likable. They can be very objectionable, but they are still my world.
