About the Item

A Marcello Avenali is an original artwork realized by Franco Gentilini between 1940 and 1950, it is dedicated to Marcello Avenali, an Italian artist who was a friend of Franco Gentilini. "A Marcello Avenali il suo Gentilini" is written on lower right margin. Perfect conditions. It's a representation of an urban landscape with a portrait of Pierrot in the foreground. The background is total brown and the outlines are lighter, in the center of the scene there is a street with a bus and some cars. The buildings are stylized. Franco Gentilini (Faenza, 1909 - Rome, 1981) was a famous Italian painter. He started working as an apprentice in a woodcarver shop. In 1932, he moved to Rome where he met artists and writers of Caffè Aragnoìs (Cagli, Mucci, Falqui, Sinisgalli, de Libero), starting long collaborations with them in the illustration of their texts and poems. The themes of his artworks are cathedrals, baptisteries, jugglers and itinerant players, landscapes with irregular perspectives, women characterized by ankle boots with spool heels, bicycles, trucks, cats and lions.
