About the Item

Retina #6, an edition of 3, is part of the artist's "At The Center of Seeing" Series. This archival pigment print is printed on Epson Enhanced Matte paper. Image size is 22" x 16" on 24" x 18" paper size. Signed in pencil, within the image, lower right. This work from At the Center of Seeing crystallizes the fleeting symmetry of Cruz’s kaleidoscopic videos into a meditative still image. At its core, a soft star-like form radiates outward, dissolving into warm tones of gold, peach and yellow. The geometry is both structured and fluid—edges blur into light, while darker arcs frame the image like wings or protective thresholds. The composition suggests multiple readings: a luminous mandala, an organic cell under magnification, or even a stained-glass window refracted through memory. Its emanating glow reinforces the series’ concern with vision as revelation—a search for moments where chaos resolves into archetypal form. As with other works in the series, this image is drawn from the “center” of a kaleidoscopic sequence, isolating a single moment in time and space from endless digital flux. What remains is a radiant, psychological emblem—simultaneously cosmic and intimate, discovered rather than constructed. Framing is recommended before shipping. All work is shipped flat, not rolled. Mr. Cruz is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Grant. His first solo show was at White Columns, New York City in 2003. His last solo show “I’ll Take you There” was at the Olympia Project, Bushwick, in 2020. His studio is located in the Flower District in Manhattan.

EM-104 Geshe (Abstract Photography)
By Bill Kane
Located in London, GB
EM-104 Geshe (Abstract Photography) Pigment on canvas - Unframed. Edition of 3. The Emanations series is an attempt to express the spiritual potential of the most essential aspect of photography: light. Each work in the series began its evolution as a scanned image of a Buddhist thangka—a spiritual painting of a Buddhist deity—which was then blurred and stretched until all that remained was a distilled image of color and form. These reduced images were then printed onto canvases, resulting in what Kane refers to as elemental “representations of the light bodies of the Buddhas.” Bill Kane...
