This work, in a beautiful horizontal format, illustrates the artistic friendship between Apollinaire and Braque, as it is one of eighteen woodcuts created to illustrate the eponymous text, originally published in 1915. This sober, even austere, gray monochrome is used for the purity of form, for the raw expression of a poetic sensibility.
