Keith Haring
1988 Man, Signed and inscribed, Estate of Dorothy Berenson Blau, Littmann PP. 92

1988

About the Item

Keith Haring 1988 Man, from the Estate of Dorothy Berenson Blau (with unique inscription), 1988 Silkscreen. Signed and inscribed to pioneering Miami dealer, Dorothy Berenson Blau Frame included: held in the original vintage frame This work is a rare, hand signed and inscribed proof, aside from the regular edition of 150. The inscription reads as follows: "For Dorothy with Love" Catalogue Raisonne Reference: Littmann PP. 92 Framed in the original vintage wood frame as it was acquired from the Berenson Blau estate; Measurements: Framed: 13 x 11 x .5 inches Artwork: 10 1/8 x 8 inches In 1988, Keith Haring was at the height of his fame as an artist (and fixture on the club scene.) That year, he designed this print as an invitation for a decadent New Years Eve sex party in NYC, featuring an irreverent pinstriped personification of capitalism. You'd be forgiven if you thought Haring's 1988 man reminded you of a jailbird. Only two years later Haring would be dead of AIDS. Only 150 of these invitations were hand signed and numbered, and some artists proofs - like the present work - were personally inscribed by Keith. Own a piece of Pop history with extraordinary provenance. This is a hand signed and inscribed silkscreen entitled "1988 Man" - a rare Artist's Proof, aside from the regular edition of 150. This silkscreen was given by Keith Haring to his dear friend and dealer, the pioneering Miami art dealer, Dorothy Berenson Blau who was one of the first to champion Pop Art and befriended artists like Keith Haring, Robert Indiana and Andy Warhol. She published several Pop Art portfolios, and actively promoted Pop artists in the Miami region with great success. The work is hand signed and dated by Keith Haring along the right recto and inscribed to her with obvious gratitude. This was acquired from the Berenson Estate.

  • 'Untitled' original 1960s signed serigraph silver abstract vintage train pop art
    Located in Milwaukee, WI
In this untitled serigraph, Vincent DiMattio combines the aesthetics of the space age with Pop Art sensibilities and techniques. In the postwar era of the 1950s and 1960s, the United States was in the midst of a period of economic growth for the middle class, and so the trappings and imagery of middle class life became the subjects of a number of artists. While figures like Andy Warhol focused on images of celebrities and soup cans, here DiMattio looks to robots and rockets. At the far left, a figure appears with a round green head and a small clamping arm. To the right, a form like a tank with phallic protrusions, one with a head like the form of a space ship. These signs all alight with the space age toys...
