Melinda Cox is an artist at the intersection of minimalism and graphic pattern. A lover of Modernism and the textile mills of her native New England, she is a conceptual problem solver and visual thinker. Melinda is the Creative Director of Balanced Design: Modern Patterns / Traditional Craftsmanship / Made in the USA textiles and rugs based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Her work can be seen in both commercial projects and
private residences throughout the USA and has appeared in numerous national and international publications. Artist Statement I see the world in simple shapes and powerful colors. I see patterns. Whether as a print designer, a graphic designer, a textile designer, or a rug designer, I take a minimalist approach to using color, shape and form. My work has been called, daring, bold, whimsical and happy and is inspired by any simple shape, like a bird’s foot imprinted in the sand.

About the series:
" 'Detritus' series was born from the twin frustrations of lockdown halting all planned projects, yet litter still somehow being dropped in abundance on my street.
With no idea of the final output, or indeed the hygiene implications, I started to collect, scan, and record what I found. When I realised these colourful misshapen objects could be turned into something beautiful, the frustrations left me and I began looking for other sources of Detritus.
