Nicola Carrino
Nicola Carrino was an Italian sculptor who was self-taught. His neo-realistic style quickly evolved into abstract post-cubism with a strong link to the materials. His style changed further to be informal with the assembly of recycled materials in geometric compositions. After having initially started out in painting, Carrino became part of the Gruppo 1 in Rome in 1962, applying himself to the design of sculptures constructed with industrial objects and materials, in search of rational order. As an advocate of changes to the environment, in 1969 he carried out big, three-dimensional metallic geometric modules that were able to give spaces a variety of interrelations, either planned or free. Carrino's works, exhibited in important museums in Italy and elsewhere, are often monumental installations that affect the landscape or urban environment.
