About the Item
Patty deGrandpre’s “New Mexico, Sometimes it Snows in the Desert” is a 10.75 x 14 inch unique abstract mixed media print represented on 13.25 x 16.5 inch Awagami Kozo thin white paper embracing both digital printmaking, creative photography, and collage. A screen of deconstructed black, pastel green, and orange clouds sit above and blend within two black and white images of a snow covered New Mexico landscape. A negative provides contrast in the mirrored desert image that is placed on the bottom half of this whimsical depiction of a Southwest panorama. A small orange Pueblo style house hidden amongst the snow dusted terrain adds a familiar pictorial touch in the fragmented imagery. The deliberately placed small pieces of spheres in blue paper and silver leaf are collaged onto the print contributing to the energy of the dynamic layered composition. Skillfully combining the recognizable with the abstract, deGrandpre’s inkjet printer becomes her press as she prints layers upon layers of ink creating unique pieces with lavish color and tone. deGrandpre’s vast catalog of photographs that have been deconstructed, cropped, and manipulated become the catalyst for many of her artworks. This one of a kind print is signed and dated under the bottom right corner of the image and will ship flat in a protective sleeve ready for the frame of your choice. This vibrant and playful print will make a striking addition to any contemporary collection.

Patty deGrandpre
Patty deGrandpre is a New Mexico based artist. She received her BFA in Visual Design at Southeastern Massachusetts University in 1987. Her studio is in her home in Lamy, New Mexico. She has participated in many shows, both juried and invitational, at local, regional and national levels. In addition to three solo exhibitions, she has received accolades and awards over the years in both Fine Art and Printmaking.
