About the Item
This 18" x 22" framed, geometric abstract serigraph was created by Cuban artist, Pedro Oraa, in 2007. The composition is of geometric shapes, predominantly in shades of gray, white, and purple. The central shape is a purple circle, placed within a dark grey geometric shape. More dark grey geometric shapes meet each corner of the composition, framing the central grey shape and purple circle. The dark grey shapes have lighter grey elements on various sides, and the rest of the composition is white, creating a three-dimensional effect and sense of depth within negative space.
This work is characterized by its abstraction and minimalism, focusing on form and color rather than a narrative or representational imagery. The work is presented in a white frame with glass.

Pedro de Oraá―painter, sculptor, designer, art critic, poet―studied at Havana’s Academia San Alejandro. He played a foundational role in Cuban concretism, an art movement with a strong emphasis on geometric abstraction, collaborating with Los Once (The Eleven) before becoming a founding member of 10 Pintores Concretos (10 Concrete Painters) in 1957. Oraá and his wife, the artist Loló Soldevilla, opened Galería Color y Luz, an important rendezvous and exhibition space for Cuban abstract artists.
