About the Item
Royce, Richard (American, born 1941). AU FOND. Intagio print in colors, 1967. Edition of 40. printed on BFK Rives paper. Titled, numbered 6/40, and signed and dated, all in pencil. 17 1/4 x 13 5/8 inches (plate), 24 1/2 x 19 1/2 inches (plate). In excllent condition.
Royce was born in New York. He studied with Hayter in Paris, where he made prints, including this one, at Atelier 17. After returning to the US, he had his own printmaking studio, and worked with many very well-know artists. His works are in many museum collections. Now, in his 80s, he is active as a master of the flamenco guitar.

Richard Royce
Richard Royce was born in New York on August 18, 1941. After getting his BA and MA in fine arts at the University of Wisconsin, Richard went to France to study with Stanley W. Hayter, the father of modern printmaking. On returning to the US he opened a studio where he produced etchings, cast paper, paintings and sculpture commissions of his work while at the same time helping other artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Larry Rivers, Marisol, George Segal, Raphael Soyer, Françoise Gilot and James Rosenquist to realize works in various media. His works are at Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, Historical Society of Wisconsin, Portland Art Museum, Oregon Fine Arts Museum of Long Island, International Paper Corporation, Isla Center at the University of Guam, Byer Museum of the Arts, Musée du Petit Format and Yasuda Life Insurance Company. For approximately 40 years he created prints, cast papers and sculptures. Richard Royce lives in Oregon. He is mostly active as a classical and flamenco guitar artist now.
