About the Item
"Floating Stones" Monoprint in Ink on Heavy Paper
High-contrast composition by California artist Stacey Pollard (American, b. 1962). Although primarily abstract in nature, there are shapes that resemble stacked stones, similar to a cairn. However, in this depiction, the stones are stacked in an impossible manner, as if barely making contact with one another, partially floating.
Titled "Floating Stones" in the lower left corner.
Signed and dated "Stacey Pollard © 1995" in the lower right corner.
Presented in a wood frame.
Frame size: 30.5"H x 22.25"W
Impression size: 25.5:H x 14.25"W
Stacey Pollard (American, b. 1962) is a painter and printmaker from the San Francisco Bay Area.
Artist's Statement:
I find all of my compositions in nature, sometimes with structures, or any shapes or lines that I see. Using marks and paint to build up the surface, I enjoy walking the tightrope between creating an image that is abstract and also representative enough.
My paintings start with many layers of acrylic glazes, and I also add texture with handmade papers or other materials. Grid marks, sketch lines, and remnants of materials remain embedded in the work, so that some marks from every layer are in the finished piece--the process becomes the narrative.
