Guillermo Kuitca, whose paintings and prints are often inspired by seating arrangements in theater interiors, recreates the seating chart for Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in this work. In a characteristic manner, he casts a shadow of red over the diagram, which turns the space into an abstract superimposition of planes and an exploration of light and shadow. The print was commissioned to celebrate the re-opening of Alice Tully Hall in 2009.

Guillermo Kuitca
Guillermo Kuitca is an Argentine artist, who works and lives in Buenos Aires. Kuitca's work has been shown extensively around the globe, and is included in many important public collections, including The Tate Gallery, England; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, DC; the North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, NY and The Daros Collection, Zürich, Switzerland,[citation needed] and at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.[1] Kuitca represented Argentina at the 2007 Venice Biennale.[2] Recurrent themes of travel, maps, memory, and migration can be found in Kuitca’s work. He won the Konex Award from Argentina in 1992 and 2002. He is represented by Hauser & Wirth. "Portals, doorways and transitional thresholds are recurring themes in Kuitca’s work. This stems, in part, from a response to a series of wall paintings he completed—including a mural in his studio in Buenos Aires, a commission inside Durslade Farmhouse at Hauser & Wirth Somerset, as well as installations in New York and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris—which encouraged Kuitca to work on a larger scale: affording a literal incorporation of real space into his canvases, while enabling Kuitca to bridge two-and three-dimensional modes of working. Kuitca’s longstanding involvement with the theatre further informs his integration of architectural features and speaks to his works’ conceptual proximity to scenic design." - Hauser & Wirth
