Alexander Calder
Original poster from Alexander Calder's exhibition at the Sala Gaspar in 1973

About the Item

Beautiful poster from Alexander Calder's exhibition at the Sala Gaspar in 1973. Alexander Calder 🇺🇸 (1898-1976) changed the course of modern art by developing an innovative method of sculpting, bending and twisting wire to create three-dimensional "drawings in space". Resonating with the Futurists and Constructivists, as well as with the language of early non-objective painting, Calder's mobiles (a term coined by Marcel Duchamp in 1931 to describe his work) consist of abstract forms made of industrial materials - often poetic and graceful, sometimes boldly colored - that are suspended in a strange, perfect balance. Later in his career, Calder devoted himself to the creation of monumental sculptures in bolted sheet steel, which continue to adorn public squares in cities around the world.
