Alexander DOBKIN (1908-1975) Painter, illustrator, writer, lecturer, graphic artist, teacher.
Born in Genoa Italy, Dobkin moved to New York at a young age and studied at the City College of New York and at the Art Students League, under George Bridgman and Jose Clemente Orozco.
earning degrees at City College of NY, B.S.; Columbia Univ., M.A.; ASL.
Death place: St. Martin, West Indies, on a cruise
Exhibited: AIC; Corcoran Gallery, Carnegie Institute, Brooklyn Museum,LOC (Two Pennell purchase awards for prints); Am. Acad. of Arts & Letters (two Childe Hassam purchase awards); also in museums in Europe, Australia, and South America; Forum Galleries and Associated American Artists, NYC, 1970s (they published his prints and other great American artists such as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Reginald Marsh and Jack Levine). His first one man exhibition was held at New York's A.C.A. Gallery in 1935.
