The name of the bird is printed on the plate. This work is part of a print suite realized for F. O. Morris after drawings by Richard Alington, to create an inventory of British Birds.

Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917) was a British watercolor artist, illustrator and engraver of natural history and landscape. He worked for the printer Benjamin Fawcett, where he had been an apprentice from an early age. He collaborated on a large number of works with Rev. Francis Orpen Morris who wrote the text.
