About the Item

Lithograph realized by Auguste Raffet for "Croquis pour les Enfants", no. 11. Not signed. Good condition. The "Croquis pour l'Amusement des Enfants" was a publication realized by Gihaut Frères in Paris, also issue in London by McLean around the same time. It included ten lithographic plates, each containing multiple sketches (croquis). The images show humoorous and lively scene: children playing, stret vendors, small soldiers, funny everyday situations. This is an early work by Raffet, before he came famous for his Napoleonic military scenes. Here, his style is closer to that of his teacher Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet, with a humorous and animated tone rather than the eroic style of his later works.
