This finely detailed lithograph is an early work by Auguste Raffet, and depicts a captain of the Garde Royale standing in full parade uniform with a plumed bicorne, drawn sword in hand, as lines of soldiers form ranks behind him.
Created early in Raffet’s career (1828), this sheet reflects his classical precision and compositional discipline before he shifted toward more dynamic Romantic battle scenes.
