Rome: Giovanni Scudellari, 1816. Frontispiece and 50 copperplate engravings with etching on cream wove paper, each image 4 1/8 x 6 5/8 inches (104 x 168 mm); sheets measure 7 5/16 x 11 inches (185 x 278 mm), full margins. Each image is titled and signed on the plate, some in full ("Pinelli fecit 1816 Rome"), others with only the signature and an "f" ("Pinelli fecit"), loose as issued. Each sheet is in very good condition with extremely minor handling wear and some sheets with minor surface soiling.
A lively collection of 50 copperplate etchings depicting everyday Roman life in picturesque form. Scenes include street performers, musicians, villagers, acrobats, members of the cloth, prostitutes, mourners, hunters, fortunetellers, shepherds, and peasants. The scenes are replete with rustic entertainment; dancing, fighting, and revelry of all sorts. In addition to Rome, the settings are Ciociaria, Cerbara, Tivoli, Albano, Frascati, Pietra Terrazzana.
