About the Item

This is not Femminocracy is the contemporary artwork realized by LBS (A.K.A. Bruno Salvatore Latella) in 2024s. Lithograph on Hahnemühle Photo Rag. Title in the back of the artwork. Hand signed by the artist. Numbered on the lower margin and in the back. Numbering of 30 print runs. Conceptual description: The artwork This is not Femminocracy by LBS (alias of Bruno Salvatore Latella), created for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25, powerfully addresses the themes of female suffering and resilience. Inspired by a photograph by renowned photographer Letizia Battaglia, the piece depicts two female figures draped in golden cloaks, their blood-stained tears symbolizing the pain inflicted by the violence they endure. The two women, hailing from different cultural backgrounds, represent the dichotomy between Western and Eastern societies, both marked by a long history of female oppression. The artwork highlights how this violence is not confined to a single culture or geographic area but is a universal plague uniting women worldwide, regardless of cultural or religious differences. The artist explores the phenomenon of female subjugation, imposed by patriarchal and misogynistic structures, manifesting in various forms of violence, from physical and psychological abuse to the restriction of rights and personal freedoms. The title This is not Femminocracy adds an additional layer of critique: through this oxymoronic neologism, the artist challenges the misleading notion of “femminocracy,” a supposed female domination that, in reality, does not exist. The artwork emphasizes how this ideological construct serves as a tool of control and justification for perpetuating violence against women, keeping them subjected to a system that denies them full rights to self-expression and self-determination. In this piece, LBS denounces how women themselves are victims of this false narrative, which fuels the irrational fear of a “femminocracy” to justify repression and violence. It is a critique of the deep-seated prejudice that perceives women as a threat to be controlled and subdued, ignoring the harsh reality of a world where women continue to be targets of abuse and discrimination. Through this powerful representation, the artist invites reflection on the severity of gender-based violence and the urgency of cultural change to dismantle the patriarchal system, finally promoting a fair and equitable society. Instagram Video LBS (A.K.A. Bruno Salvatore Latella), a visual artist born in Reggio Calabria in 1999, graduated with a Master's Degree in Primary Education Sciences. From classical music to visual art, LBS uniquely combines pedagogical humanities studies with his artistic production, transforming ideas and visions into captivating works of art. Positioned at the intersection of pedagogy and artivism, LBS has quickly gained notoriety, collecting prestigious awards. His powerful and socially critical street art has received widespread recognition and appearances in national media. LBS courageously addresses societal issues, inviting the viewer to openly confront the challenges of the contemporary world. His unique vision merges with artivism in the "liquid super-society," symbolically exploring contemporary society and the lack of dreams and certainties. With a technique that combines photography, digital drawing, fine art print design, and painting, LBS draws inspiration from various artistic movements, creating a sharp visual language. His works communicate a conceptual and social message, with a pedagogical profile reflecting his academic background. LBS has been featured in major exhibitions and publications, with a steady growth in his artistic career. Prepare to be captivated by LBS, an artist who uses art as a catalyst for change, invoking our humanity and offering a bright hope for the future. lbs__artist
