About the Item

Beggar Leaning on a Stick, Facing Left is an engraving on ivory-colored paper realized by Charles Amand Durand (1831-1905) after an etching by Rembrandt. This wonderful piece of art belongs to a late edition of the 19th century. Good conditions. Superb etching through deft strokes, strong mastery in expression through an impression of virtuous old master's touch. Rembrandt known simply as Rembrandt (Leiden, 15 July 1606 - Amsterdam, 4 October 1669), was a Dutch painter and engraver. He is generally considered to be one of the greatest painters in European art history. Having achieved great success as a portrait painter from a young age. His drawings and paintings were already popular during his lifetime. Rembrandt's greatest creative triumphs are especially evident in the portraits of his contemporaries, his self-portraits, and illustrations of scenes from the Bible. In both painting and printing, he exhibited a thorough knowledge of classical iconography.
