About the Item
Woodcut print realized in the late 19th Century.
Signed in the block lower right Vierge.
This impressive large-format wood engraving by Daniel Urrabieta Vierge, one of the most innovative Spanish illustrators of the late 19th century, presents a lively open-air concert scene. A bustling crowd, rendered with extraordinary detail and dynamism, fills the composition, their postures and gestures capturing the vitality of modern leisure. In the background, a bandstand rises among the trees, its presence anchoring the narrative while the foreground teems with animated figures in conversation, repose, and festivity.
Vierge was celebrated for his bold use of line and his ability to imbue illustration with the immediacy of reportage. His engravings, widely published in leading journals of the time, bridged fine art and popular culture, establishing him as a central figure in the history of modern illustration.
Wide margins; light toning and scattered foxing consistent with age
