He was an Italian engraver; he began his artistic career as a painter, producing several works, which are either lost or otherwise unidentifiable. At 18 he started engraving, a technique on which he was probably self-taught. The engravings he made on Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel, published in the Schola Italica Picturae (1773) by Gavin Hamilton, were an important source for the artists of his time. Cunego is relevant not only for the reproductions of the paintings of his fellow countryman Guido Reni and other contemporary Italians such as Antonio Balestra...
