Girl with flowers. 1968, paper, etching, 68x51 cm Dzidra Ezergaile (1926-2013) Born in Riga. School years alternate with summer work in the countryside. In 1947, she began her studies at the Faculty of Architecture of LVU, but in 1951 she transferred to the State Academy of Arts of the LPSR, graduating as a graphic artist - poster artist. Since graduating, she worked as an artist in the editorial office of the magazine "Woman of Soviet Latvia". Member of the Union of Artists since 1962. She works in portrait graphics using the printmaking technique and also paints watercolors. The most popular themes of her work are landscape and portrait, she has done a lot of bookmarks and illustrations. Graphic compositions Dz. Ezergaile sets with line and rhythm, which determine the emotional nature of her works. Most often they are etchings printed in Cinco type. Dz. Ezergaile has participated with her works in art exhibitions of the Republic, the All-Union and abroad since 1956. Has held personal exhibitions: the most important in Riga in 1962, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1976, 1986; in 1969 in the History Museum of the LPSR; In 1970, in the Museum of Local History and Art in Madona.

This particular work is included in the 1975 Portfolio "Omaggio a Michelangelo" (Homage to Michelangelo) which comprises 13 prints (8 partly colored etchings and 5 color lithographs). The portfolio includes other original signed and editioned prints by artists Horst Antes, Jorge Castillo, Emilio Greco, Renato Guttuso, David Hockney, Jean Ipoustéguy, Fiacomo Manzù, Marino Marini, André Masson, Henry Moore, Eduardo Paolzzi, Fritz Wotruba, and Paul Wunderlich. Artist Biography: Giacomo Manzù, original name Giacomo Manzoni, (born December 22, 1908, Bergamo, Italy—died January 17, 1991, Ardea), Italian sculptor who, in the mid-20th century, revived the ancient tradition of creating sculptural bronze doors for ecclesiastical buildings. His sober realism and extremely delicate modeling alternately achieved austere severity and sensuousness of form and surface, lending a new spirit of vitality to figurative bronze sculpture. Manzù had to leave school at an early age to learn a trade, and he was apprenticed to local craftsmen who taught him to carve wood and to work in metal and stone. After service in the Italian army from 1927 to 1928, Manzù went to Paris to try his luck as a sculptor, but after three weeks he collapsed from hunger and was deported back to Italy. He settled in Milan, and, after receiving a commission in 1929 to decorate a chapel at the Catholic University, he devoted himself to sculpting full-time. Manzù’s early works were nudes, portraits, and biblical subjects, executed in a style that at first was influenced by Etruscan, Egyptian, and medieval art.
