Chiton is an original etching realized by Francisco Goya and published for the first time in 1799.
Etching on paper.
The plate belongs the Third Edition of "Los Caprichos" that has been published in 1868 by the Calcografia Nacional for the Real Academia. The full edition includes 80 works. Plate number 28. Titled on the lower margin "Chiton" (Silence).
Excellent conditions.
The old woman, always shrinking and praying with the rosary is listening to the unspeakable loves of a lady of good position: in stealth ("Chiton") she will find her rewards.

Francisco Goya
Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker. He is considered the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His works often contained a social message, like in his "Disasters of War" series. Immensely successful in his lifetime, Goya is often referred to as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. He was also one of the great portraitists of his time.
