About the Item

Obsequio a el Maestro is an original artwork realized by Francisco Goya and published for the first time in 1799. Etching on wove paper. This artwork belongs to the Third Edition published in 1868 by the Calcografia National for the Real Academia. The full edition includes 80 satirical plates numbered on the upper margin from 1 to 80 and titled in Spanish on the lower margin. Etching number 47. Titled on the lower central margin "Obsequio a el Maestro" (A Gift for the Master). The plate is in excellent and the impression is very fresh. On the left side margin there are several punctures that indicate the presence of an original seam. The work shows some old women with deformed faces kissing and praying a small figure of a baby. With this artwork, Goya wanted to show us the the boorish obsequious people and the reverence through an old and boring political class. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago by an artist who has died requires a licence for export regardless of the work’s market price.
