About the Item

Artist: George Rodrigue (1944-2013) Title: Midnight Surprise (Blue Dog Series) Year: 2000 Edition: 62/150, plus proofs Medium: Silkscreen on archival paper Size: 22 x 17.5 inches Condition: Excellent Inscription: Signed and numbered by the artist GEORGE RODRIGUE (1944 -2013) Pronounced rod-REEG, captures Louisiana landscapes and Cajun culture in his paintings. Rodrigue's style and popularity shifted when he began painting a series focused on a single subject, now known as the Blue Dog. In the early 1990s his Blue Dog Series, based on the French-Cajun loup-garou legend, catapulted him to worldwide fame, while his dark Renaissance-like landscapes developed into robust modern masterpieces. Rodrigue eventually dropped the Cajun influences altogether and devoted his full attention to the Blue Dog Series, which has become one of the greatest success stories in American art.
