Signed lower center, 'Gooch', for Gerald Gooch (American, born 1933) with number and limitation, '5/16' and dated 1965. Born in Mainington, West Virginia, Gerald Gooch first studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1965. In 1967, he received his Masters from San Jose State College and subsequently taught for many years at the San Francisco Art Institute. Exhibited: California State Fair, 1965; California Palace of Legion of Honor, 1967; Illinois Bicentennial, 1967 (prize); Santa Barbara Museum, 1971; West Coast Painters & Sculptors, 1972. Gerald Gooch's work is held in private and public collections including the permanent collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art. Exhibited: California State Fair, 1965; California Palace of Legion of Honor, 1967; Illinois Bicentennial, 1967 (prize); Santa Barbara Museum, 1971; West Coast Painters & Sculptors, 1972. Georgetti first worked as a merchant seaman to support his art studies and traveled all over the world accumulating sketches, many of which he later worked up into paintings.
