About the Item
Harriet (Keese) Lanfair (1900-1988) lithograph, c. 1935, signed in pencil on lower right margin. Printed on a very light japan paper, with margins. A proof impression, with printers ink and creasing in irregularly trimmed margins (as characteristic of a working proof, these margin defects not affecting image), slight staining also mostly in margins. Archival matting, 8 1/4 x 13 inches, the sheet 12 x 15 inches.
A fine impression of this rarity - this is a working proof impression, and we know of no edition or other impressions of this fascinating composition that have appeared on the market; however, another impression was recently acquired by the National Gallery in Washington D.C.
Harriet was the wife of artist Harold Lanfair. She studied with J. Francis Smith, Nicholas Haz, at the Otis Art Institute and UCLA; she lived in the LA area, specializing in lithography, and exhibiting actively with the LA Print Group during the 1930’s.
