The four men are dressed in colorful clothes of green , blue, purple , red and brown and stand out from a light pastel background. This print is an original limited edition ( A. P. , artists proof ) lithograph in very good condition and is signed in pencil by the artist.
Polish/American artist Ira Mosokowitz ( 1912-2001 ) emigrated to New York City in 1927 at the age of sixteen. He studied at the Art Students League under John Sloan and Harry Wickey and by the 1930’s had exhibitions of his paintings, lithographs and etchings in the great city. He moved to the Southwest and joined the Santa Fe Group of Artists and gained a national reputation for his portrayal of the Navajo peoples life and customs. Moskowitz returned to live in New York after 1947 and made many trips to Israel. Thereafter religion and Jewish culture played a vital role in his art. Isaac Bashevis Singer once said of Moskowitz; “Ira has recaptured the religious view of God and the world in his works.” His etchings, lithographs and paintings are included in many major collections in Europe, the United States and Israel. These include the Library of Congress, Washington DC, the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, the Haifa Museum of Modern Art, Israel, the Museum of Fine Arts Houston Texas, and the Witte Memorial Museum San Antonio Texas.

By Théo Tobiasse
Located in Paonia, CO
Assemblee des Rabbins et Notables au 16 siecle dans un village de Lithuanie is an original artist proof
( E. A. ) lithograph by Theo Tobiasse (b.1927 -2012) , an internationally successful French painter, engraver, illustrator, and sculptor. He grew up in Paris during the Nazi occupation. His work has great depth and originality as he seeks to express the inner world of man. Perhaps the hardships he and his family endured helped define his artistic expression. He has had many exhibitions around the world, in Paris at the Drouant gallery, in Geneva, Montreal or Tokyo, then London, Zurich, Lauzanne, Los Angeles, Kyiv. He also had a solo exhibition in New York and many more shows world wide over the years. A visit to Jerusalem in 1970 brought him closer to his Jewish origins. He created his first stained glass windows on the theme of “Jewish Holidays” for the Jewish Community Center in Nice and a monumental oil on canvas entitled Que tes tentes sont belles, ô Jacob (1982). He traveled and immersed himself in the cultures he encountered, the jazz of New Orleans, Mexican archaeological sites and Native American totems. In New York, he met Elie Wiesel...
