About the Item
This artwork "Venetian Scene with Arches" c.1910, is an original etching on paper by noted Scottish artist James Hamilton Mackenzie, 1875-1926. It is hand signed at the lower right corner by the artist. The plate mark (image) size is 12.5 x 8.5 inches, framed size is 23 x 18.25 inches. Custom framed in a wooden black ornate frame, with off-white matting. It is in excellent condition.
About the artist:
James Hamilton Mackenzie was a painter and etcher who studied at the Glasgow School of Art. He was elected an Associate Member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers and a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours. His works were exhibited in the Glasgow Institute, RSW, the Royal Scottish Academy as well as at Liverpool and Manchester
Examples of his paintings are in the collections of Glasgow Museums, Paisley Museum and Art Galleries, Williamson Art Gallery and the McLean Museum and Art Gallery, National Gallery of Scottland. His wife Margaret Thomson Wilson was also an artist. He died in Helensburgh
