Pan with Flutes - Original Bay Area Woodblock Print
Bold and dynamic print of the mythological figure Pan playing double flutes by John S. Cheatham (American.) Pan stands in the center of the composition, holding a flute side in each hand and blowing into them. His figure is sturdy and his back appears hunched over. His fur is textured with bold lines. He stands on a pool of black which recedes behind him, providing a sense of ground and depth. The background behind him is carved to mimic a wood grain texture, adding movement to the piece. Overall, this piece strongly utilizes the visual features of woodblock prints to create an engaging and bold image.
Signed and numbered along bottom edge "A/P 6/74 John S. Cheatham."
