About the Item
This pieces is one of a series of works in which Noland depicts symmetrical chevrons, or V-shaped figures, stacked upon one another, their points facing downwards. He utilizes a soft color palette of yellows, pinks, greens, oranges, and blues - colors reminiscent of painted Easter eggs. These colors pop out against the stark black background, allowing the viewer to trace Noland's painterly strokes, sometimes straight but often curving up and down in wave-like patterns. Noland divides the chevrons with dark, forest green lines, yet the overall effect is one of an upside down, layered pyramid.
Created in 1985, this work is a unique monotype on hand-made paper. This work is signed and titled in pencil on the reverse "'FARALLONS' Kenneth Noland © 1985." and has the artists blind stamp in the lower right corner.

Kenneth Noland
Kenneth Noland was an American painter. He was known as one of the best American color field painters, although in the 1950's he was thought of as an abstract expressionist and in the 1960's as a minimalist painter. He is most famously known for his target paintings. Noland also helped establish the Washington Color School movement.
