About the Item

This original etching and drypoint is hand signed in pencil by the artist "Marc Chagall" at the lower right margin. It is also hand numbered in pencil from the edition of 110, at the lower left margin. There were 84 impressions on laid paper and a further 26 impressions on Japan paper. It was printed by Pan-Presse, Berlin in 1922 and published by Paul Cassirer, Berlin in 1923. Note: The work was part of Chagall's important and renowned series "Mein Leben" (My Life), which included different etchings, all relating to significant events in his life. It was intended to illustrate his first autobiography. Provenance: Private Collection, Kansas City Literature: Kornfeld, E.W. (1971). Marc Chagall – Catalogue Raisonné de l’ouevre gravé. Salvador Dali (1904-1989) is Surrealism's most accomplished and iconic practitioner. His work is eccentric, elaborate, and mysterious, with an avant-garde style that explores the depths of consciousness and dream-like states. Prolific and endlessly inventive, Dali worked in almost every possible artistic medium; film, sculpture, photography, fashion and of course painting.
