Excerpted from the Peter Max Archives, As Peter Max looked to the new millennium in 1999, he created a series of uplifting anrtworks expressing his hopes and bright optimism for the era ahead. An electric sunrise in a surge of the artist's most exuberant colors rises on the horizon with peace doves above, a garden of Max's unique flowers below and a simple, perfect heart floating above the sun's reflection on the water. Max rendered the work in his 1960s 'Cosmic Art' style which addressed the hopes of the love-and-peace movement thirty years earlier. This stunning artwork is brilliantly reproduced displaying the artist's striking color, animated, bold line work and the promise of a new millennium found in each life-giving sunrise.
PETER MAX (1937- ) Peter Max has achieved huge success and world-wide recognition for his artistic accomplishments as a multi-dimensional artist. From visionary Pop artist of the 1960s, to master of dynamic Neo Expressionism, his vibrant colors have become part of the fabric of contemporary American culture. Known as a "Global Artist" showing the need for greater responsibility to our planet, his creative talents have served important global and world events. During his career, he has been regarded as a passionate environmentalist and defender of human and animal rights, and many of his works have been dedicated to these noteworthy causes. His principles of freedom and democracy are depicted with his famous paintings of American icons of freedom including Lady Liberty and the American Flag.
