About the Item

Image dimensions: 16 x 10.5 cm. Ah qu'il faut saud! is an original watercolored etching realized in the first quarter of the 19th century by the French artist Philibert-Louis Debucourt (1755 – 1832). The artwork is the plate n.36, from a suite of 52 plates entitled "Modes et Manières du jour à Paris à la fin du 18e siècle et au commencement du 19e siècle", printed by Bureau du Journal des Dames, Paris [1798-1808]. On the higher part is printed the number of plate: "Modes &c. N° 36." Original title printed on the lower center, with an inscription "ah qu'il faut saud! / carcao garni de dentelle". In very good condition, except for some signs of aging and foxing, with vivid colors and including an elegant cardboard Passepartout, cm 25 x 19. A copy of the same artwork is preserved at the Musée Carnavalet, Histoire de Paris, because this is important evidence of the French fashion at the beginning of 19th century
