About the Item
Sole Tree is an original etching on paper, realized by French engraver and artist Philippe Burno t(1877-1956). Hand-signed on the lower right and numbered on the lower left, edition of 6/40 prints.
The state of preservation of the artwork is good.
Included a Passepartout: 36x 42 cm.
The artwork represents a lonely tree, a reverence to nature. The artwork is characterized by soft and delicate strokes that defined a well-balanced composition.
Philippe Burnot (1877-1956) He is the founder of Bois Gravé Lyonnais, an association which, in the 1930s, enabled the renovation of printmaking in Lyon. In 1919, he met George Bruyer who introduced him to wood engraving. The following year, he exhibited his first woods at the Salon d'Automne in Paris. The meeting in 1922 of Charles Forot, poet, a publisher from Vivar, who became his friend, opened the doors to publishing for him: then began a long career as an illustrator for the Éditions du Pigeonnier. Burnot is the illustrator of around ninety books, author of numerous ex-libris, and numerous independent plates, (wood and engraving with a burin).
