ROBERT PHILIPPI (Austrian 1877-1959) KNEELING NUDE. c. 1923 (Chrastek, Widder 2019, p. 162, N° 461) (in Rifkind Collection, LACMA: From a portfolio of 10 prints. Rifkind indicates the edition of the portfolio is 85 Woodcut on thin Japan paper, signed and numbered 9 in pencil, lower left. Signed with initials in the block lower left, Image 19 x 10 1/2 inches, sheet 20 3/8 x 12 3/8 inches. Full margins with deckle edge. some tape stain along the lower left margin and a trace of foxing in the upper right margin. Some soft creases in the japan paper primarily in the upper left margin corner. Other minor discoloration on an otherwise very fresh sheet. Philippi was an Austrian painter and printmaker. Around 1920, he produced a group of large figurative woodcuts that were reflective of both German Expressionism and the figures of Egon Schiele
