Sandro Trotti
In the Roman environment the young Italian artist, Sandro Trotti finds fertile ground to start his artistic career. Here he attended Domenico Purificato, then assistant of Capogrossi, Pericle Fazzini and Sante Monachesi. Trotti met the painter Luigi Montanarini, posing as a model for the image of the crucified Christ. With Maestro Montanarini, intense friendship and artistic collaboration was born that will last until the death of the Maestro, in 1998. Initially Montanarini's painting assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, from 1972, Trotti became the holder of the chair of Painting at the same Academy until 2000. His first personal exhibition was held in 1954 in Porto San Giorgio. These are the years of the first pictorial research, of marinas and winches. In the 1960s, Trotti's pictorial research turned to abstract art, as indicated by the artistic trends of the time and to experiments on glass and plastic materials and it was the years of Cellophane, the Cartesian axes, rice grains, televisions and of the Crates. In the 70s, Trotti developed a more figurative painting, which does not omit the geometric shapes or the material brushstrokes of the Crates. He produced a series of white nudes and portraits of the Japanese Yoko. Since 1970, he has made numerous trips abroad, Syria, Thailand and India, Egypt, the Middle East, will be his goals. He makes Buddhas and begins to draw portraits of Eastern women, a theme that returns throughout his career, the nudes of women, the landscapes of Rome, the landscapes of the Marche hills are pictorial themes constantly present in the art of Trotti. In 1985, he exhibited at the Museum of Philadelphia, together with other great Italian masters. In parallel with the painting activity, Trotti also carries out the graphic one, creating many engravings and etchings with the artist and friend Sandro Pazzi and the Marche artists of the La Luna Association. In 1999, he was invited to China to preside over the opening of the Shanghai Fair. Trotti is currently considered one of the greatest witnesses of Italian artistic culture in China. The painter established a fruitful artistic exchange with the major Chinese academic authorities and is periodically called to teach painting in the Academies of China. He was appointed honorary professor at the Academies of Hubei, Guangzhou, Beijing.
