Kinuta - Original Woodcut Print by Tsukioka Kôgyo - 1922
Located in Roma, IT
Kinuta is a wonderful color xylograph on paper, made by the Japanese master Tsukiota Kogyo (1869-1927). The artist's signature is in the red seal printed in the lower right corner "Tsukioka". From the series "One Hundred No Dramas" (Nogaku Hyakuban), published by Matsuki Heikichi (Daikokuya) and published in 1922. The texture of the princess's kimono has a precious golden hatch, and the artwork keeps still today the rare beauty and the incredible delicatessen inspired his creation, and in perfect syntony with the Japanese mood. Japanese Beauties Enjoy a Full Moon
Located in Burbank, CA
"Sun, Moon and Stars". Three beauties enjoy a full moon on the veranda of a teahouse or restuarant. The woman on the left kneels and adjusts her lavishly printed kimono. The beauty in the center has her hair down, and behind her is a screen against which shadows are beautifully silhouetted, which adds an air of mystery. The seated woman on the right is perhaps a geisha, as we see a shamisen lying next to her. Before her is a tray with an assortment of foods. One may surmise that the beauties are being compared to the sun, the moon, and the stars. On the left we glimpse a full moon shining over the peaceful bay, and boats at harbor. Original first edition Japanese color woodblock print triptych...

Artist's alternative names: Apel·les Fenosa, Apelles Fenosa Spanish Sculptor Fenosa was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1899 and as a young man worked in the studio of sculptor Enrique Casanovas where he came into contact with the ideas and adherents of the Modernist Movement and its influence in Barcelona, Paris and other European cities. In 1917 he founded together with Joan Rebull, Josep Granyer and Josep Viladomat the group The Evolutionists. He arrived in Paris in 1921. There he quickly gravitated into the Parisian avant garde artist community and became friends with Pablo Picasso, who became an early patron of his work, buying a significant number of his sculptures, and with the sculptor Max Jacob. Max Jacob wrote the preface to the catalogs of Fenosa's first Paris exhibition, and his show at the Zborowski gallery in 1928. In 1931 Fenosa was in Catalonia when the Second Spanish Republic was declared. There he remained in order to work with the anarchist movement and participate in the Republican ranks during the Spanish Civil War. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1936 and with the coming to power of the Franco Fascist regime left Spain once again to settle in Paris. In 1942, he met the painter and poet, Paul Eluard, who became a close friend. In 1944, the Comite de Liberation du Limousin (Organization for the Liberation of the Limousin) commissions a sculpture to commemorate the Nazi killings of Oradour-sur-Glane. He creates the "Monument aux Martyrs d'Oradour-sur-Glane" (Monument to the Martyrs of Oradour) presently in Limoges. Ode to Manet's Déjeuner sur l'herbe
Located in New Orleans, LA
18 x 24 inches - Edition 1 of 5 with 2 APs Shot in 2011 in New Orleans and Amsterdam Inspired by Édouard Manet’s Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, 1863 Photography and acting are kindred spirits in the new series by e2 (Elizabeth Kleinveld and Epaul Julien). Their current photographic project, In Empathy We Trust, presents viewers with re-imagined iconic images from the history of art. The collaborators re-envisioned the work of old master painters beginning with the Flemish Primitives and spanning nearly 600 years. With subjects enacting roles with varied representations of race, age, and sexual orientation, e2 “remakes with a twist” works by artists such as van Eyck, Rafael, Velázquez, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Fragonard, and Manet. Inspired by the original paintings, e2 hopes to “jar viewers” into questioning their own perceptions. They invite viewers to see these images, and indeed the world anew, using humor, wit and playfulness. In addition they hope that the viewers will see how stereotypes can lead to prejudice and discrimination. The collaboration began in 2010, after completing work on the traveling exhibition and book project Before (During) After: Louisiana Photographers Respond to Hurricane Katrina. This natural and man-made disaster brought social inequities in Louisiana into vivid focus. Conversations between Kleinveld and Julien revealed their mutual interest in issues of social justice. Accompanying e2’s series is its own coat of arms, bringing new meaning to the traditional symbol of the aristocracy. Heralded with pelicans and a fleur de lis, the shield reflects the artists’ Louisiana roots. It also features their motto: In Empathy We Trust, which reflects the core values of e2’s work. The artists believe in the power of empathy...

Moda by Rosie Emerson, Black and white analogue photography, glam female figure
Located in Dallas, TX
"Moda" is one of Rosie Emerson's newest pieces from her fashion inspired photographic series. This is a photopolymer etching with embossing on paper, framed in a custom box black frame. This is an edition of 12, and each piece is slightly different because they are each hand-made. Moda, Ed 2/12 Photopolymer etching with embossing on paper, framed Artwork: 22" x 10" inches / 55 x 25 cm Rosie Emerson, born in 1981, is a contemporary artist working almost exclusively on representing the female form. Emerson’s figures draw reference from archetypes old and new, from Artemis to the modern day super model, each solitary figure, an allegory of her own fantasy. Interested in surface, the interplay between photography and painting. Emerson’s works are playful constructs; Photography is used, not as a device for capturing reality but for creating romanticised optical illusions. Inspired by her love of theatre, performance, shrines and rituals, she uses lighting, costume, set and prop making, alongside printmaking and painting to create other worldly one off pieces. Her photography is inspired by both the drama of the baroque, and ethereal qualities of Pre Raphaelite works. Other important influences include late medieval and renaissance paintings, Japanese prints, and magical realist literature. Emerson’s screen-prints use unusual materials including charcoal powder, ash and saw dust to shift the focus of printmaking from accuracy and replication to the creation of unique, hand-finished prints with subtle texture. She explains ‘By combining photography with painting it allows me to balance energy and precision, and create something, which despite hours of planning will still surprise me in its results.’ Her recent Cyanotype works enable her to montage objects with real size photographic negatives. Using UV light from the sun to expose objects and images directly on to the sensitized surface, the works are often hand painted or gilded with gold leaf. Emerson describes ‘the technique itself has an element of magic about it, it also a wonderful discovery to be able to combine painting, collage and photography in this way’’. Emerson’s work is widely collected and exhibited both in the UK as well as internationally, through galleries, art fairs and museums. She has also worked with brands and individuals including Harvey Nichols, The Ivy Club, Sony, Triumph Underwear, Redbull, P&O Cruises, and Annoushka jewelry...
