Treva Wheete (1890-1963) Original Color Woodblock created 1936.
The edition size is 13 of which this print is no. 5. The title is: “The 5 and 10"
The image measures 8"h x 10"w. The paper size is 10"h x 12 7/8"w.
The work is in excellent condition and presents in a 16 x 20 museum mat.
It is signed in pencil and dated '36 lower right. It is titled in pencil lower left.
Treva (Mrs. Glenn) Wheete was born in Colorado Springs. She and her husband were print makers for a number of years before retiring in 1941 in Oklahoma. Their works were displayed in many parts of the United States and Europe.
During the 1930's they were invited by the Kansas City Woodcut Society to make a gift print which was reproduced in several national magazines. The prints were made from blocks of wood and other materials on which various colors were blended.
Mrs. Wheete was a member of the Prairie Printmakers, the California Printmakers Society, and the Color Block Printmakers. Exhibition venues included the International Prairie Print Makers (1934) where she won a medal, and the Grand Central Art Galleries in New York in 1937.
