Mushae is an original modern artwork realized by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798 – 1861) in the half of the 19th Century.
Original woodcut print rom the series "Genji kumo Shui" (Supplement to the Cloudy Chapters of Genji), sheet 58.
Ichigawa Danjuro VIII in the role of the young Oniwaka Maru holds a nanigata blade, keeping his muscular opponent with one foot on the ground.
Signed in plate.

Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798 – 1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school.
