Josef Eidenberger
"House" Color Etching on Paper of a Medieval Era Home Surrounded by Trees

1980

About the Item

Copperplate etching Hand signed and inscribed by the artist in pencil. Image size: 13.5 x 11.5 in. Frame size: 24 x 22 in. A naturalistic color etching on paper featuring a classic scene of a historic, medieval era house with walled garden. The house has a red, shingled roof, and green shutters. The picturesque home is surrounded by lush green bushes and trees. The sky above the house is cloudy with patches of blue breaking through the clouds. The pieces is handsomely matted and framed with a natural paper matte and a simple wood frame with gold-leaf finish. It is ready to hang with a wire on the back. Copperplate etching is a form of “intaglio”, a type of printmaking, in which an image is carved into the surface of a copper plate using a process of acid baths. The plate is inked, and laid on a printing press with a sheet of paper stacked on it. The assembly is rolled through the press and the image is transferred from the plate to the paper. A plate can be used to make multiples of the same image, and each impression is a unique, handmade work of art.
