BENNY ANDREWS (1930-2006) was an African-American artist, activist and educator. He is known for his expressive, figurative paintings that often incorporated collaged fabric and other material. Andrews helped found the Black Emergency Cultural Coalition, which agitated for greater representation of African-American artists and curators in New York’s major art museums in the late 1960s and 70s. He also led the group in founding an arts education program in prisons and detention centers. Andrews taught art at Queens College for three decades, and from 1982 to 1984, served as the Director of the Visual Arts Program for the National Endowment for the Arts. Anna-Louise graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2003 having received first class honours from Central Saint Martins. She is often regarded as a reportage artist, for her work is generally painted on location in ink on paper. These studies are then used as reference material and scaled up into large oil on canvas paintings. From 2009-2011 Anna-Louise had an art gallery in Cornwall, where she exclusively showed her own work documenting village life, local architecture and scenes from the bay. Substantially framed contemporary limited edition giclée print on canvas of a beautiful plein air impressionist landscape painting by California artist Donald R. Britton (American, b.20th Century), 2007. Some small areas of oil paint highlights added to canvas print by the artist. The landscape features a calm mountain stream flowing past large boulders and yellow autumn trees, with tall majestic mountains in the background.
Hand signed lower right "DR Britton" with the edition number 11/100.
Signed and dated in the print "DR Britton '07", lower left.
Displayed in a custom rustic style contemporary wood frame with linen liner and gold trim.

Artist’s Statement:
I have been surrounded by artists virtually all my life. I received my first drawing instruction at the age of six from my father. We were living in New Mexico at the time and he was an avid amateur landscape painter there. Although I dabbled in painting off and on for years, my first career took a different path. Following a BA from the University of Colorado and a PhD from The Ohio State University I entered a career in neuroscience research. However, in 2004, I committed to painting full time and was almost immediately rewarded with the joy of recreating scenes I loved. This contemporary coastal landscape is a Limited Edition print by Daniel Pollera. It depicts a sandy beach with waves rolling in from the right-hand side of the composition. Two Adirondack chairs are seated on the beach, in front of wooden fencing, overlooking the ocean. A beach house can be seen slightly up a hill, behind the fence, with a white porch and trim. Very light clouds can be seen throughout a vibrant blue sky.

Daniel Pollera was born in 1953 in the coastal town of Freeport, New York. His interest in art began at a very young age, gravitating toward drawing and painting the surrounding coastline of Long Island. After a short study at SUNY Farmingdale in Commercial Art, he left to enter the family business.
For almost 15 years, Daniel took a sabbatical from painting, but this didn’t affect his love for the sea. He obtained a Captain’s License in 1977 from the United States Coast Guard and took passengers for hire on the open ocean. Through this experience and visual knowledge he was drawn to begin painting again. Although Daniel was primarily self-taught, he worked with Frances Norris Streit, a portrait and mural artist, assisting her on a 14’ x 30’ historical mural for the Roslyn Savings Bank. He also studied with Everett Molinari, a well-respected President of the National Mural Society. Museum collections include Long Island Museum, Parrish Art Museum, and Guild Hall Museum.
