This exquisite original travel poster, designed by the acclaimed French artist Jeanne Poye Maillard, was commissioned by the French Northern Railway (Chemin de Fer du Nord) to entice holidaymakers to the picturesque port city of Calais. Rendered in lush, vivid colors and professionally linen-backed, the poster depicts an inviting seaside vista characteristic of the early- to mid-20th-century golden age of rail travel.
The Embroidery Factories of Calais. Calais is famous well beyond its port—for more than a century, it has been a global center for embroidery and lace-making.
