About the Item
This lithographic poster was designed after Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec for an exhibition at the Galerie R.G Michel, Paris in 1954. This poster, which is based on the original lithograph from 1897 entitled "La party de Campagne", was faithfully reproduced by Mourlot Master Printer, Henri Deschamps for the exhibition.
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) was a french artist, painter, printmaker, caricaturist, illustrator and draughtsman born into aristocracy in Albi, Tarn, the Midi-Pyrénées region of southern France. From a young age, it became apparent that Toulouse-Lautrec suffered numerous different congenital disabilities, such as stunted growth and an underdeveloped lower body, that were a result of inbreeding as his parents were first cousins.
After being ostracized from high-society because of his physical appearance, Toulouse-Lautrec developed an affinity for liquor and brothels. This later affected his art as many of his subjects appear as prostitutes. Although his most common medium was paint on canvas, he was no stranger to lithography. He created 363 posters and prints in his career. Toulouse-Lautrec is held in the highest regard of the post-impressionist movement along with his contemporaries, Cézanne, Van Gogh and Gauguin.
Each individual work of art carefully curated by Mourlot Editions comes with a Certificate of Provenance, signed, dated, stamped, and numbered by Eric Mourlot. This certificate guarantees the origin and authenticity of your personal lithograph.
